best chinese language school

Let’s point out the first problem. It is important to emphasize, again, the following conclusion:

Chinese is a tonal language. This does not mean that only the tones form words, but the words rely on their own tones.

In non-tonal languages such as Italian and English tones do not exist. We are not aware of this simply because the meaning of the word does not depend on their changes.

The first thing you will be faced with when talking about Mandarin Chinese are the tones. The following graphs show in detail four “height” slogans in Chinese.

One generally said looking at this chart, listening to the appropriate sound as well as try repeating it. It starts from the basic building blocks (sists), then passes on the words (which can be mono-, bi- or three-sided) and finally the whole sentence.

Now, imagine that you want to learn Italian, and that is what your teacher imposes on the mentioned bottom-up approach. So, you should start with the sound quality of the slogans, then move on words and sentences.

But what did you do today? ==> Ma Che Ha-i fat for NN-GI?

But where did you go? ==> But do-it-yourself self-worth?

Imagine a tremendous effort in trying to pronounce the whole sentence by looking at the tone of each slogan. Things worse when it comes to thinking about a sentence, in that one should remember every tone!

When we speak all the individual parts follow the general intonation in the sentence, and ‘tone shift’ takes place. This ‘tonal shift’ means that the pronunciation of the slogans makes the change of terms in positions occupied by those words in the sentence.

La Palenta * And a Typical Food of Northern Italy. (‘Palenta’ is a typical dish of NorthenItaly)

I like the palentom. * (I love the palent. “)

As you can see, the word “bellies” at the beginning of the sentence sounds like the first third-second tone, and this becomes the first four-fifth (neutral) tone at the end of the sentence.

It is obvious that this approach to learning Italian will be a disaster. No one, fortunately, would dare to adopt such an approach. However, even with regard to the great difference between Italian and Chinese, this is the only approach adopted in most Chinese courses, whether at a university or private schools – best chinese language school. Now, is there an alternative to all this?
